Creatives at Work: Maria Grønlund’s ‘I SPEAK FLUID COLORS’

Graphic designer Maria Grønlund recently demonstrated the imaginative Adobe Illustrator CC techniques behind her I speak fluid colors series. Here, you can watch a recording of the live demo, and get to know Maria in her home in Denmark.

With our new series Creatives at Work, we wanted to give participants new skills and teach them new techniques, while also providing an inspiring over-the-shoulder look at an artist’s creative process.

We were thrilled when Maria Grønlund agreed to join us for our first event. We’re big fans of Maria’s beautiful abstract creations—she is well known for her work’s vibrant colors and for her unique methods.

In this recorded Adobe Connect session, Maria walks participants through her creative process and demonstrates several techniques. (Jump to 0:01:15 to skip past the opening polls for attendees of the live session.)

The I speak fluid colors series is aptly named. With it, Maria—who taught herself to use Illustrator by trying one new tool each day—has truly developed her own visual language. Taking inspiration from organic shapes such as flowers, smoke, and ink suspended in water, Maria uses Illustrator blends, gradients, and other tools in unexpected ways to get her colorful, surprising images.
