Creative Voices

Good things take time. We can all be seduced by the promise of a quick fix or distracted by the meme of the moment. But when you want to go deep, you need time. That’s the premise of our new series of short films, in which two practitioners of a creative industry speak with each other about their craft. In this, the first installment of the series, up-and-coming director Maris Curran interviews the legendary Mira Nair on the art and business of filmmaking.

Nair’s best-known films include Mississippi Masala, Monsoon Wedding, The Namesake, The Reluctant Fundamentalist, and Salaam Bombay!  Her next film, Queen of Katwe, stars Lupita Nyong'o and David Oyelowo. (Curran’s Five Nights in Maine also stars Oyelowo.) During this interview, Nair shares wisdom gained during her life in film.
