Additionally, Bancroft is an artist in residence of the new animation undergraduate program at Lipscomb University in Nashville, Tennessee, where he lives with his family. About his creation for this week’s Coloring Book chapter, he says, “I enjoy creating worlds that have a piece of what we know, but shown in a new way or environment. The underwater world of mermaids lets me do that. I wanted to capture that ‘underwater slumber party’ moment where teen girls are enjoying dressing up and having casual fun but being spied on by the mer-boys. I created this drawing ‘tradigitally’ on my Wacom 32" Pro Cintiq using Adobe Photoshop CC. I used the Kyle Webster brushes for the pencils and inks. Colors were created by Jesse Heagy in Photoshop, also.”

We’re currently all going through a very serious time, so I really wanted to create a piece that makes my inner child happy. Sometimes you just need to take a moment to breathe and look at something calming.”
