Reach through the screen to #panaround with this fun yet simple effect. I’ve seen this effect done before with stop motion, but then one day I was playing around on my phone and realized you can use the time-lapse feature on your phone to achieve the same effect. Plus, the phone will automatically stabilize the shot for you! It’s quicker than traditional stop motion and requires way less patience.

This video above shows a simple way to add the Instagram heart by using screen recording, which you can do directly from your phone. It works well if you want to post the video to your feed. However, if you want to add a heart to a vertical aspect ratio video for reels or stories, you’ll need to add the heart in Adobe Premiere Pro.

To add a heart in Premiere Pro:

  1. Upload a black square to Instagram.
  2. Screen record yourself double-tapping on the black square, so you get a video of the heart on a black background.
  3. Add the video into Premiere Pro and make sure to use the screen blend mode. It removes the black portion of the image, leaving you with just the heart, which you can overlay onto your footage.
