Lena Waithe + Zerina Akers
Episode 1: Create Legacy
The premiere episode of Create Change features a stirring conversation between two pioneer women creators, Lena Waithe and Zerina Akers. Waithe (Emmy Award-winning writer, producer, and actor for The Chi, Queen & Slim, Twenties, and Master of None) and Akers (costume designer for projects including Beyonce’s Black is King and founder of Black Owned Everything) sit down to discuss Black representation in the fashion industry, and share their experiences as Black female creators and how they are using creativity to make an impact in today’s world. Working in different disciplines, these two artists come together in their shared purpose to create art that is real, honest, and representative.

Cleo Wade, poet and author (Heart Talk: Poetic Wisdom for a Better Life and Where to Begin: A Small Book about Your Power to Create Big Change in Our Crazy World) and Destinee Ross-Sutton, an art curator, advisor, and artist advocate (Christie's selling art exhibition "Say It Loud (I'm Black and I'm Proud)") meet for an intimate conversation on the importance of creativity in their daily lives, their hunger to use it to affect change, and how art is used to connect and communicate shared values. Through their conversation, they find inspiration in both their commonalities and differences, encouraging one another to use their voices and push art forward.
